Data sources & credits
Listings in Do I Need An Electrician? are compiled from the sources below. Each is named with the dataset it came from, the licence it is used under, and the credit that licence requires. Where a licence makes attribution a condition of use, that credit is reproduced here word for word.
Required attributions
- Google Maps — Google Maps Platform Terms of Service (credentialed paid API)
- [neither the site owner nor the information, as it is presented on the site owner's web site, is endorsed by the State or any state agency] — Texas state-agency conditional copy permission (Tex. Gov’t Code web-site rules; TDLR disclaimer §D)
- Contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0. — Open Government Licence v3.0 (Crown copyright)
Credited as a precaution
For these sources we could not read and quote a licence — the page states none, or it refused our request. A blocked read is not proof that no credit is owed, so we credit them anyway and record the verbatim wording as still outstanding.

California Contractors State License Board (CSLB)
CSLB licensed-contractor register, licence-file extract copied 2026-05-08
- Licence:
- CA.gov public domain, qualified (CSLB 'Conditions of Use' resolves to the statewide policy)
- Last updated from source:
- 2026-05-10
CSLB's footer 'Conditions of Use' link resolves verbatim to href="https://www.ca.gov/use/" — this is a CHANNEL fact read off CSLB's own page, not a sibling inference. That page's Ownership section, verbatim: "In general, information presented on this website, unless otherwise indicated, is considered in the public domain. It may be distributed or copied as permitted by law. However, the State does make use of copyrighted data (e.g., photographs) which may require additional permissions prior to your use." No attribution condition is stated. NOTE the K41 CSLB/DRE carve-out: this contract settles the CREDIT ONLY. It does NOT hand CSLB the 'California DCA boards' REDISTRIBUTION verdict, which the carve-out excludes it from.
Connecticut eLicense / DPH
Connecticut eLicense electrical licence roster
- Licence:
- None stated (as-is public service)
- Last updated from source:
- 2026-05-23
No licence grant and no attribution requirement. Closest sentence, verbatim: "Publishable data made available on the Connecticut Open Data Portal shall be provided as a public service on an ‘as is’ basis."
Florida DBPR
Florida DBPR licensee download, DBPR data-downloads extract copied 2026-05-08
- Licence:

- Source: Florida DBPR — Florida DBPR licensee download, DBPR data-downloads extract copied 2026-05-08, https://www2.myfloridalicense.com/data-downloads/
- Last updated from source:

NOT FOUND — both the downloads page and the data-file description PDF returned HTTP 403 to our operator class. The existing verdict records that the licensee-download readme imposes ZERO reuse restriction, but that text could not be RE-VERIFIED in this pass. Channel block, not an absence.
Google Places — audited paid corpus (dated tags only)
Google Places API business records, electrical vertical, April 2026 audited pull
- Required credit:
Google Maps
- Last updated from source:
- 2026-04-20
Verbatim: "When displaying Places API data without a Google Map, you must include the Google logo, adhering to the provided style guidelines and attribution requirements." Google specifies the Google Maps logo, or the TEXT "Google Maps" where space is constrained. There is no "Powered by Google" string mandated for this case. Scope is the 51 dated audited tags ONLY — the bare `google_places` tag is a separate, unresearched tripwire authority.
legacy_pre_path_y (unknown provenance)
Pre-PathY legacy rows — originating authority not recorded at load time
- Licence:
- No licence asserted — provenance not recorded
- Credited as (provenance not recorded):
- Compiled from publicly available listings (pre-2026 legacy data)
- Last updated from source:
- 2026-05-05
IRRECOVERABLE, NOT UNRESEARCHED. The originating authority was never recorded at load time, so no licence can be asserted and no credit can honestly be given. This is not closable by research; it closes by re-deriving provenance where a source identifier survives on the row, or by de-serving the remainder. In campgroundsnearme alone this is 2,840 SERVED rows.
Massachusetts Div of Occupational Licensure (Accela)

NOT FOUND — mass.gov returned HTTP 403 to our operator class on both the API ToS and the site terms. NOTE: the existing verdict records that the permissive EOTSS API ToS carries an UNMET non-endorsement attribution clause, and that it governs the API channel we did NOT use (we used the Accela portal, which offers no data-use grant). Treat as an open attribution question, not a cleared one.
Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry
Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry licensed-contractor register
- Licence:
- Public domain (DLI disclaimer)
- Last updated from source:
- 2026-05-11
Verbatim: "All of the information and documents on the DLI website are in the public domain." The credit ask is verbatim: "If you link to DLI's site, we request that you do not pull text from the DLI's site or its publications without proper source attribution." — 'we request', and NO wording is specified, so there is no line to quote and attribution_required is false. Recorded because it is the nearest thing to a credit ask on this authority and a ruling may still choose to name DLI voluntarily.
New York City Department of Buildings (NYC Open Data)
NYC Department of Buildings licensed-trades register, NYC Open Data extract
- Licence:
- NOT FOUND (NYC Open Data ToU incorporates the NYC.gov Terms of Use, which reserve all rights)
- Credited as:
- Source: New York City Department of Buildings (NYC Open Data) — NYC Department of Buildings licensed-trades register, NYC Open Data extract, https://opendata.cityofnewyork.us/overview/

NYC Open Data verbatim: "By accessing datasets and feeds available through NYC Open Data, the user agrees to all of the Terms of Use of NYC.gov as well as the Privacy Policy for NYC.gov." and "Public data sets made available on NYC Open Data are provided for informational purposes." No attribution condition anywhere — silent, so NOT FOUND on the credit. 🔴 The incorporated NYC.gov Terms of Use are ADVERSE on redistribution, verbatim: "All other design, information, text, graphics, images, pages, interfaces, links, software, and other items and materials contained in or displayed on NYC.gov ... are the property of the City of New York. All rights are reserved." — and they grant no reproduction right, directing reuse requests to the owning agency. That is a REDISTRIBUTION finding for 2,953 served rows (electrician, plumber) and belongs to empire-legal-audit; it is named here and ruled nowhere.
Self-serve (user submitted)
Rows submitted by the business owner through /list-your-business
- Licence:
- Submitted by the listing owner under the site’s own Terms

Not an external authority. The row is contributed by the business itself through /list-your-business; the governing document is our own Terms. No third-party credit is owed.
Texas Dept of Licensing & Regulation
TDLR licence-file extract, copied 2026-05-16
- Licence:
- Texas state-agency conditional copy permission (Tex. Gov’t Code web-site rules; TDLR disclaimer §D)
- Required credit:
[neither the site owner nor the information, as it is presented on the site owner's web site, is endorsed by the State or any state agency]
- Last updated from source:
- 2026-05-16
Verbatim grant: "The information posted on a state agency web site may be copied so long as it is presented in a non-misleading way and does not imply that either the site owner or the information, as it is presented on the site owner’s web site, is endorsed by the State." The permission is CONDITIONAL on four attributions together: identify the state agency, its web address, the date copied, and the bracketed non-endorsement statement quoted above.
UK Companies House (official open company register)
UK Companies House public register — SIC 43210 (electrical installation) companies
- Required credit:
Contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0.
- Last updated from source:
- 2026-07-04
Companies House verbatim: "Material of this sort is subject to Crown copyright protection and is made available on GOV.UK under the Open Government Licence v3.0" and "if information is used from guidance notes, the website, publications or statistical tables the customer must credit Companies House as the source". OGL v3.0 verbatim: "acknowledge the source of the Information in your product or application by including or linking to any attribution statement specified by the Information Provider(s) and, where possible, provide a link to this licence" — and the condition is self-executing: "if you fail to comply with them the rights granted to you under this licence ... will end automatically". CH specifies no bespoke attribution statement of its own, so the OGL default line above applies (re-confirmed 2026-09-10 on the bulk-download page http://download.companieshouse.gov.uk/en_output.html, which carries NO licence statement at all). TENSION, named not resolved: the same CH page also says "Companies House imposes no rules or requirements on how the information on the public register is used." That sentence is about USE, not about the licence grant; it does not withdraw the OGL acknowledgement condition, and the safe reading (give the credit) is also the cheap one. Graded HIGH on the licence + line; the register-carve-out reading is recorded so a ruling can overturn it deliberately.
US EPA — Lead-Safe Certified Firms (RRP rule)

EPA's Standard Open Data License, verbatim: "Unless otherwise specified, all data produced by the U.S EPA is by default in the public domain and is not subject to domestic copyright protection under 17 U.S.C. § 105 . More details on the U.S. Public Domain license are available here: http://www.usa.gov/publicdomain/label/1.0/" No attribution condition. The rest of the page is a warranty disclaimer and a metadata-limitations caution.
